Currency Exchange is an ongoing exploration that evolved out of DesignInquiry’s Fall 2019 Inquiry and topic, Currency. Since that time, the group of collaborators from North America and Europe have met regularly to make several bodies of work.

The work presented is a statement of collective exchange and a snapshot of the currency that we are in. We are on shifting sands, continually adjusting, observing and taking part in a process that we wonder if we ever learn from.

Currency is often taken simply to mean money, but if currency also suggests relevance, presence, value and systems of exchange, what exactly has currency in an era in which value systems seem to be shifting?

When a state of fluidity characterizes everything, how is value built and enhanced, and what kind of currency is worthy of our investment?
